'Statues Also Die' deals with the notion of fetishism. Empty packages of mainly electronic devices are filmed in front of a black background. In patterns of light and shadow the film depicts the packages in complete shape, various angles or in detail revealing their material surface.
Like in an imaginary museum the shapes of the objects evoke associations with archaeological finds or with ethnographical artifacts such as African masks, animal totems or Pre-Columbian statues.
The title 'Statues Also Die’ refers to the film Les statues meurent aussi (1953) by Chris Marker and Alain Resnais. In the original version African statues die by being displayed in museums and taken out of their cultural or ritual context. In the 16 mm film however disposal objects become re-animated, revaluated and fetishized.
The film is structured into five chapters.
